This session is designed for content and ENL teachers in Math: Grades 8-12. Co-teaching teams are encouraged to attend together. This workshop will begin with a discussion of key strategies for ELLs’ success in algebra and other upper grade math courses. Participants will then explore strategies for academic language and mathematics content support for ELLs. They will then develop understanding of strategies for adapting a relevant mathematics lesson for ELLs. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to apply ELL strategies by adapting a lesson in their own contexts.
Participants will take away hands-on strategies to provide ELLs with academic and mathematics content language support and to adapt mathematics lessons to build the bridge for ELLs from foundational skills to grade level material.
Participants are requested to bring a laptop or other device for use during selected activities in the workshop and a lesson plan they have used or will use in their math classes.
