Science in the K-12 environment offers a unique opportunity for ELLs to be able to participate in unique and exciting hands-on activities. This workshop will begin by outlining various engaging strategies including methods, techniques, and scaffolds that can be used by science teachers to help ELLs in the classroom. Next, we'll begin by learning as a group a few highly-engaging and culturally relevant science topics that may serve as a springboard for building science interest for ELLs. Then, we will work individually or as small groups to update/adjust either existing science lessons or create brand new lessons that reach all types of learners.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to effectively apply multiple science-related scaffolding techniques into their own curriculum.
Registration/Sign-in: 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM
