This hands-on workshop will present frameworks and instructional strategies for literacy engagement for all students, especially ELLs. Research on exemplary literacy practices in the Hudson Valley demonstrates that students benefit from opportunities to use language critically, in multiple contexts, in different modalities (reading, writing, listening and speaking), and through the lenses of their culture and identity. Therefore, this hands-on workshop will 1) explore critical and culturally responsive literacy frameworks, and 2) examine instructional practices such as before, during and after reading strategies that promote critical discussions among students.
