This 6-hour course* will engage educators in training to implement an abridged, sheltered ENL/ELA curriculum for SIFE learners who have home language literacy at or below 3rd grade. The curriculum is designed for the two Bridges sheltered classes:
Integrated ELA/ENL: Thematic, language-arts based class, using stretch texts.
Stand-Alone ENL: Centers-based classroom, using leveled texts.
The primary goals of this training course are to:
Understand the unique learning needs of secondary, multilingual SIFE learners who have low levels of home language literacy and the implications for instruction
Review the content, protocols, sample lessons, and progress monitoring approaches for both Integrated ELA/ENL and Stand-Alone ENL
Adapt curriculum for SIFE students who are in classrooms or remote learning environments
Your participation is required in the following 3-part training for each course:
Part 1: 60 minute recorded webinar and task
Part 2: live (virtual) instruction to take place on June 29, 10 am-12 noon AND June 30 from 12 noon-2 pm
Part 3: Follow up Q&A after each live session (optional)
*Two hours of the course will be independent learning webinars and tasks; four hours of the course will be live (virtual) instruction; there will be an additional two hours included as an optional live (virtual) Q&A.
