11:45-1:30 PM - Synchronous Session via Zoom
1:30-2:30 PM - Asynchronous Session
What are the specific needs of our ELL students, and where do we begin to meet those needs? Which strategies can we use to support ELL students in their acquisition of new content, language, and vocabulary knowledge?
Research shows that students learn more effectively when they have familiarity with the content they are about to learn. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn several strategies for activating and building upon the background knowledge that students need to access content lesson topics and themes. Participants will also learn strategies for incorporating vocabulary and language learning into their everyday practice. After learning some strategies, participants will then choose a newly learned strategy and brainstorm how they might include it in future lessons and units.
For the first part of this workshop experience, participants will join the HV RBERN for a synchronous session to build understanding around the needs of ELLs and learn some strategies for support.
To access this session, a Zoom link will be shared with registered participants to the email addresses they used to enroll in Frontline (MLP).
After the synchronous session, participants will complete an hour of asynchronous learning by viewing short strategy videos and reflecting on their own practice using a Genially Interactive Infographic and a Google Form (participants must complete the Google Form to earn CTLE).
Participants MUST be enrolled by Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 12 noon.
Cost: Free
