With English Language Learners (ELLs), the fastest-growing student population in the country, teachers are looking for proven strategies and resources to help their students navigate learning a new language while providing equitable access to the curriculum. This series of "bite-sized,” self-paced workshops is centered around best practices for all educators embracing their role and responsibility as a teacher of ELLs and for ELLs. Module 1 includes five brief topics. Each topic consists of a pre-recorded video presentation with hyperlinked resources to be explored at your own pace. Upon completion of the 5 topics and quizzes in Module 1 of the series, you will earn 5 CTLE hours. There is a live Zoom orientation and debrief session.

Module 1: Foundations (5 CTLE hours)

Teachers will develop an understanding of how and why the process of learning a new language should inform their instructional practice and understand how the stages of language acquisition relate to levels of proficiency.

Topic 2. Why does second language acquisition take so long?
Topic 3. How do you make your content visible? Comprehensible Input
Topic 4. What does it mean to promote Language Equity and Identity?
Topic 5. How do you differentiate instruction based on the level of proficiency?

Zoom links will be provided the morning of the Live sessions with registered participants to the email addresses they used to enroll in Frontline (MLP). Attending the Live sessions is critical in order to receive 5 CTLE hours.
