This professional learning workshop series is a collaboration between the SWBOCES School Library System and the Hudson Valley Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (HV RBERN). It is designed to promote teamwork between ENL teachers and School Librarians from the same school or district. School Librarians and ENL teachers should register to attend together as a team for all sessions.
Teams will collaborate to develop a special event or new initiative for ELLs that includes literacy components and recognition of their students’ achievements. Participants will be provided with strategies and support to help them develop a strong foundation for a successful partnership.
Session 1
For newcomers to the series: (October 24, full day, 9:00-3:00 PM, in-person) - 5 credits
Morning introductions and activities promote role understanding and partnership strategies. Afternoon: past event highlights, funding discourse, collaborative prep.
For returning participants: (October 24, half-day, 12:30-3:00 PM, in-person) - 3 credits
Highlight past participant’s work, funding and family engagement resources discussion, collaborative work prep.
Session 2 (January 30, full day, 9:00-3:00 PM, in-person) - 5 credits
Working session for all teams, progressing plans with SLS and RBERN input.
Session 3 (March 19, full day, 9:00-3:00 PM, in-person) - 5 credits
Participants reflect, share experiences, and discuss future collaboration.
