WIT 103 - The Essay - For Teachers of English Learners Across Content Areas in Grades 3-12 - February 28 1through March 13, 2024 - at SWBOCES (SESSION 2)

  • Southern Westchester BOCES 450 Mamaroneck Avenue, 3rd Floor Harrison United States (map)

WIT 101 and WIT 102 are pre-requisites for WIT 103.

Writing is Thinking (WIT 103) involves explicit instruction in expository writing skills to develop students' written and oral language, content knowledge and reading comprehension simultaneously. WIT 103 is especially powerful for English learners because it also teaches how the English language works.

This advanced workshop will deepen and refine skills learned in earlier workshops and learn how all the pieces fit together to support academic literacy for students across the grade levels and content areas through a comprehensive Writing is Thinking system. We pay special attention to developing participants’ confidence and skill in teaching note-taking; and in applying skills from earlier workshops to teaching the full essay.

The note-taking in this workshop is highly relevant for all content areas. The essay skills however are most relevant to those who teach essay-level writing.
