Literature "In Action" in the Spanish Classroom: A Seminar Based on the Works of Alejandro Palomas

This Seminar is organized by Instituto Cervantes of New York and the New York State Department of Education Office of Bilingual Education through the NYS Language RBERN at NYU STEINHARDT METRO CENTER in collaboration with the Spanish Education Office in New York.
Description
Development of four workshops on two days during which the teachers will prepare several didactic units based on literary texts of Alejandro Palomas, winner of the Premio Nacional de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil of Spain for 2016.
After a theoretical introduction the teachers will work in groups writing lesson plans which they will have a chance to discuss with the author during the last session. The seminar will end with a talk with Alejandro Palomas.
First session: Saturday, October 28th, 9 am - 3 pm
Second session: Saturday, November 4th, 9 am - 3 pm

Biography Alejandro Palomas
Alejandro Palomas (Barcelona, 967) holds a degree in English Philology and a Master in Poetics from the New College of California in San Francisco. He has combined his forays in the world of journalism with the translation of authors such as Katherine Mansfield, George Gissing, Willa Cather, Oscar Wilde, Jack London, Gertrude Stein and François Sagan. He is the author of several novels, among them: El tiempo del corazón, Tanta vida y El secreto de los Hoffman (finalist of the VII Premio de Novela Ciudad de Torrevieja 2008 and adapted for the theater in 2009). His work has been translated into eight languages. He won the Premio Nacional de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil in 2016 for his novel Un hijo.

Desarrollo de cuatro talleres en dos jornadas para el estudio y elaboración de unidades didácticas basadas en textos literarios de Alejandro Palomas, ganador del premio de literatura juvenil en España del 2016.
Los profesores, después de una introducción teórica, elaborarán por grupos diversas unidades didácticas que tendrán oportunidad de exponer al autor en la última sesión.
El encuentro terminará con una tertulia con Alejandro Palomas.
