OBEWL has revised and updated the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) Handbook. The 2021-22 NYSSB Handbook can be accessed by visiting the general NYSED NYSSB webpage and clicking on the Handbook button.

2021-2022 Comprehensive ELL Education Plan: Due December 15, 2021

  • The 2021-2022 Comprehensive ELL Education Plan (CEEP) form will be posted in the SED Business Portal on October 14, 2021 for completion by school districts

  • This year’s CEEP is to be completed electronically through the SED Business Portal

  • The CEEP is due by December 15, 2021

  • Questions can be directed to the Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages at OBEWL@NYSED.GOV

Reminder - Welcoming New Students into Our Schools Discussion

Wednesday, October 13, 2021, 11:00-12:00 PM

Many school districts in NY are currently experiencing sharp increases in ENL student enrollment this fall. In order to help districts successfully welcome, orient, and “onboard” newcomers, the Hudson Valley RBERN will facilitate a discussion focusing on:

  • ELL identification and enrollment

  • Awarding transfer credits for newcomer ELLs

  • Program, cohort and course placement for new students

This synchronous, virtual meeting will take place Wednesday, October 13, 2021, 11:00-12:00 PM. The format is a short presentation, followed by Q&A and discussion of best practices. Register here.
