EXTENDED: PR/HYLI 2022-2023 Local Training Application Period NOW Closes Friday, October 21!

The Hudson Valley Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (HV RBERN) is extending the recruitment period for high school juniors and seniors who wish to participate in the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI) 2022-2023 training sessions!

Please have all applications submitted by 9 PM on Friday, October 21.

Training, Participation, and Commitment Details

Participation in PR/HYLI develops and leverages students’ leadership, advocacy, public speaking, and essay writing skills. The culmination of the training sessions is the PR/HYLI Weekend Institute, during which students from across New York state debate bills within the New York State Assembly Chambers while assuming the roles of New York State Legislators.

This year's program will be conducted in a hybrid format with three in-person sessions and eleven virtual sessions.

The local training sessions culminate in an in-person PR/HYLI Statewide Weekend Institute in Albany, NY. This year the weekend Institute is scheduled for March 11-13, 2023.

Training sessions will begin on November 3. Please see the training schedule at this link (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-yLFOOSTLo6T-EcrbAjut1QncsU30SYMPbykUnF64OU/edit?usp=sharing) for specific dates.

PR/HYLI scholars who are seniors and meet certain criteria may qualify for scholarships provided through SOMOS, Inc, a key sponsor of PR/HYLI.
