Supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) in Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs - at Rockland BOCES

This session is designed for teachers in CTE programs who instruct ELLs in their classrooms. In this session, participants will explore relevant research on second language development and the role of language instruction in a CTE context. They will delve into strategies for scaffolding academic tasks to meet the needs of ELLs of varying proficiency levels. They will learn and apply research-based strategies for supporting ELLs’ academic language development in a CTE context. Participants will apply these scaffolding and academic language development strategies to their own teaching contexts.

Participants will take away practical strategies and activities for scaffolding academic tasks and supporting ELLs’ academic language development for application in their own teaching contexts.

Participants are requested to bring a laptop or other device for use during selected activities in the workshop and a lesson plan they have used or will use in their courses.
