In this half-day workshop, we will discuss how Guided Reading instruction relates to the specific needs of ELLs. We will explore traditional guided reading practices and how they can be differentiated for ELLs with developing language proficiency. Participants will also learn how reading assessments might look different for ELL students, and which appropriate assessment modifications can be made when assessing ELLs reading levels. Participants will work together to design a guided reading lesson for ELL students that they can immediately implement in their classrooms.
Participants should bring the following with them:
• Reading levels of their students
• Language proficiency levels of their students (determined by NYSESLAT)
• At least one guided reading text they plan to use with ELLs or groups of ELLs
