NYS Dream Act Application Assistance - Today!

We received information this morning that the NYS/NYC Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network at Fordham University will conduct a virtual workshop to assist with the Undocumented Students Sen. José Peralta NYS Dream Act Application TODAY at 3 PM. Please see the text below that you can share directly with your students.

We would like to share the following information about a webinar that is taking place at 3 PM TODAY. It is about the NYS Dream Act Application.

The Senator José Peralta New York State DREAM Act gives undocumented and other students access to New York State‐administered grants and scholarships that support their higher education costs.

The NYS/NYC Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network at Fordham University will conduct a virtual workshop to assist Undocumented Students with the Sen. José Peralta NYS Dream Act Application.

[The DREAM Act opens the doors of higher education to thousands of students, providing access to the new Excelsior Scholarship, the Tuition Assistance Program, as well as other state‐administered scholarships that were not previously available to them.

PR/HYLI Application Due Date Extended!

The PR/HYLI application deadline has been extended to 9 AM on Monday, November 30!

Participation in PR/HYLI virtual training sessions develop and leverage leadership, advocacy, public speaking, and essay writing skills.

The culmination of the training sessions is the PR/HYLI Weekend Institute, March 13-14, 2021. During this event, students from across New York State debate bills virtually in New York State Assembly Chambers, while assuming the roles of New York State Legislators.

Participating students will have options for applying PR/HYLI training toward earning the NYS Seal of Biliteracy and the NYS Seal of Civic Engagement. PR/HYLI scholars who are seniors and meet certain criteria can submit their PR/HYLI essays for scholarships!

The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBE-WL) and the New York State Regional Bilingual Education Resource Networks (RBERNs) are gathering data on the use of technology for ELLs in your district.

This data will be used to inform the mission of the Digital Age Teaching for ELLs Workgroup which includes "empowering teachers of ELLs with research-based strategies, tools, and instructional methods that support hybrid and remote-only learning models."

Reminder: PR/HYLI 2020-2021 Information Session
The Hudson Valley RBERN Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI) regional training team is holding a virtual information session for junior/senior high school students, parents, and district educators/administrators on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, from 3:00-3:30 PM.

During this session, we will share information on the application process, training sessions, and answer questions about PR/HYLI 2020-2021.
