The New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB)

There are over 500 schools that offered the Seal this year and it is anticipated that more than 10,000 students will earn this award. If your school doesn’t already offer this program, learn more about how to set one up, to honor the hard work of your multilingual students, and to boost your course enrollment at Checkpoint C by reviewing some of the resources on the NYSSB website (e.g., Handbook), and consider watching the webinar entitled Starting a NYSSB Program (you can earn CTLE for watching the webinar just like for world language webinars). There is even have a book study next year on Promoting Multilingualism: A Framework for Implementing the Seal of Biliteracy that is open to Seal schools and non-Seal schools alike. You will get a free book and can earn 27 hours of CTLE credit for attending in full the 9 meetings. Click here for more information and to register. If you have any questions on the NYSSB please contact Candace Black at candace.black@nysed.gov.
