A language equity pedagogy affirms that students' home languages and cultures are personal, communal and instructional assets that can be leveraged to facilitate deeper learning of academic content. In classrooms, ELLs and bilingual students can use these linguistic and cultural resources in structured ways. This allows them to communicate strategically as they deepen their learning and enhance their linguistic and academic performances. Participants in this two-week course will gain a deeper understanding of these linguistic resources and examine instructional practices that take advantage of them to promote ELLs' and bilingual students' academic engagement and success.
This course is being offered for a choice of 6 or 8 CTLE credit hours, contingent upon the CTLE pathway chosen by each participant. Course workload is proportional to the CTLE credit hours' accrual offered in each pathway.
